SIGAL, owned by Avni Ponari, loses more ground in the insurance claims market, payments fall by 58.4%
Insurance company SIGAL has recorded a strong decline in claims paid during the period January–April 2026, according to the latest data from the insurance market.
The data shows that SIGAL paid 5,029 claims, compared to 12,108 claims paid during the same period last year. This represents a 58.47% decrease, one of the biggest drops in the market.

The company’s share of total claims paid has also fallen significantly. From 29.01% of the market in 2025, SIGAL dropped to 13.53% in 2026.
At the same time, other insurance companies have increased their claim payments, gaining more market share in Albania’s insurance industry.
What could this decline mean?
There are several possible explanations:
• Fewer reported claims: SIGAL customers may have reported fewer claims in 2026. This could be due to:
• fewer accidents,
• a more controlled customer portfolio,
• changes in the type of clients.
• A more conservative payment policy:
The decline may also suggest:
• stricter claim verification procedures,
• delayed payments,
• more aggressive cost control.
In the insurance industry, these strategies are sometimes used to protect company profits.
However, SIGAL still remains one of the main players in the Albanian insurance market and the region, with a strong position in several market segments.
